Canyon Hill Cemetery
Tragedy often struck these early pioneers. When Mary Cox Pierce died in 1867, Reuben Cox (her father), Tom Johnson (neighbor), and A.R.T. Newland (neighbor) serached the area for a grave site. Canyon Hill was desireable as the highest ground.
There they cleared an area of sagebrush on the highest spot and buried their loved one. This marks the beginning of Caldwell's Canyon Hill Cemetery.
