Opening
What was once a desert of sagebrush is now one of the most fertile and productive areas of the West due to irrigation.
Not one factor has contributed so much to the settlement, growth, and progress of the state as the development of irrigation systems.
"The Romance of Water" series hopes to tell the story of our greatest resource--water--from the settlement of the river bottomland, ditches off the rivers, canals, and later reclamation projects.
In this program we shall focus on the Boise River and the history of the very early settlement of the Caldwell area, for without water, there would be no settlement.
