A group picture of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle, established around 1901 with Mrs. Stone as the first leader. The Chautauqua Circle spearheaded the drive to build a library in Caldwell. The women in the back row from left to right are Mrs. Roop, Mrs. John Hay, Mrs. T. K. Egleston, and Mrs. Carrie Dille. In the middle row from left to right are Mrs. Pinney, Mrs. Cordelia Foote, Mrs. John Morrison, and Mrs. Olmstead. Finally, in the front row from left to right are Mrs. A. K. Steunenberg, Mrs. Anne Boone, and Mrs. Carrie Blatchley, the founder of the group.
